Plane at cruising speed Do you always need lots of lift? No. Just enough to balance the weight of your plane. All planes fly at a cruising speed that lets them create enough lift to stay in the air. If your plane has a strong engine and can cruise at a high speed, you won't need an airfoil with a high coefficient of lift, such as an asymmetrical airfoil.
