A turbofan engine is like a turbojet engine, but with an extra turbine connected to a huge fan in front. This fan forces some of the air around the engine rather than through it, bypassing the combustion chamber and producing less hot exhaust. The cooler air produces a lot of thrust but moves at a slower speed. The turbofan is much quieter and more fuel efficient than a regular turbojet. |
