National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
NASA's Learning Technologies Project (LTP) - The goal of LTP is to promote the growth of a national information infrastructure using the vast amount of information NASA has acquired since its creation. Access to this knowledge will allow the public and industry to contribute to rapid and significant advances in science, engineering, and technology. All of the LTP projects will increase public access to scientific databases, develop new applications and pilot programs for using science data, and create new curriculum products and tools for K-12 and K-14 education -- all of this via the Internet.
NASA's Quest Project - To provide support and services for schools, teachers and students to fully utilize the Internet, and its underlying information technologies, as a basic tool for learning.
NASA Dryden Flight Research Aircraft Photo Gallery - This archive contains digitized photos of many of the unique research aircraft flown at what is now known as NASA Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards, California. These images date from the 1940s to the present.
National Air and Space Museum Home Page - The National Air and Space Museum (NASM) maintains the largest collection of historic air and spacecraft in the world. It is also a vital center for research into the history, science, and technology of aviation and space flight. Located on the Mall in Washington, D.C., the Museum has hundreds of artifacts on display including the original Wright 1903 Flyer, the "Spirit of St. Louis," Apollo 11 command module, and a Lunar rock sample that visitors can touch.
Aeronautics Concepts
See How It Flies - An on-line textbook explaining the physics of flight. Fairly technical, geared toward adult pilots. Includes a great explanation of lift.
Cislunar's NASA K-8 Aeronautics Internet Textbook - This on-line textbook on aeronautics is written at three different levels of reading difficulty, so you'll be sure to find something useful here! A Spanish translation is being produced as well.
Aeronautics Vocabulary List - Just in case you need some brushing up on your terms.
Airplanes
The Tale of the Airplane - A brief account of the invention of the airplane. Includes information on the original Wright Brothers' flyer and other early airplanes and gliders.
AeroWeb: The Aviation Enthusiast Corner - Listings of aircraft museums, airshows, and historical information, maintained by volunteers at Brooklyn College.
Landings - An huge aviation directory with searcheable databases. Landings' directory will connect you to virtually every lift-generating web site on the net, from airports to flying clubs, organizations and publications to aviation events, home-building to airlines and many more. Among Landings various databases you'll find sophisticated searches of FAA Regulations, Canadian Regulations, AIM, the Pilot Controller Glossary, Service Difficulty Reports, Airworthiness Alerts, NTSB Briefs, N Numbers and the FAA Airmen Database, Airmen knowledge test information and more.
AirNav - Free access to detailed information on airports and navigational aids in the U.S. Even includes aviation fuel prices and a fuel stop planner.
Arc en Ciel - Arc en Ciel, which means "rainbow" in English, organizes long-range international air races. It's named after the Couzinet aircraft which opened the South-Atlantic air mail service in 1934.
The Air Affair - An aviation site that includes data on fuel prices as well as airport designations. Also includes destination information, FAQs, aviation glossary, images & more aviation links.
Alex's Paper Airplanes - Free paper airplanes, gliders, and helicopter designs.
Young Eagles - The Young Eagles Program was launched in 1992 and has set a goal of providing 1 million young people ages 8 through 17 with a free introductory airplane ride.
Airports and Airlines
Landings: Airlines and Commercial Aviation Index - An alphabetical listing of all the airline companies in the world. Look up their airline codes, or find out about the planes they use!
AirNav: Airport Information - Look up airports by name or location.
Kites
Anthony's Kite Workshop - A virtual room full of kite designs and plans. Contains excellent pictures and descriptions in a Dungeons & Dragons format. Be sure to check out the Basic Paper Bag Kite and the Plastic Bag Sled Kite. There's also a Dove Peace Kite shaped like a dove.
